HIGH COAST WINTER HIKE
THE GREAT COMMUNITY
Adventure is more fun together!
A big reason why many return is the amazing community. Sure, you can go on big adventures alone, but there’s something special about being able to hang out with others in such a relaxed, spontaneous way during the hike and at the campsites. Not to mention the cozy hangout during the pre-evening, the warmth at the Top Cabin, and the atmosphere at After-Hike.
1. PRE-EVENING
Wed 18:00 – 22:00. FriluftsByn
Most people arrive on Wednesday evening, and we open check-in and the restaurant Vardagsrummet for a cozy pre-evening. You can also take part in the seminar “Basic Course in Winter Adventures”.
2. GRILL NIGHT & WOOLPOWER DIP
Fri 17:00 – 20:00: Camp Kälsviken
At our second campsite, we’ll cook a meal, and those who have accepted the Woolpower dip challenge will get the chance to try winter bathing.
3. THE TOP CABIN
Sat 15:00 – 16:00
The finish line is at Skuleberget’s Top Cabin on Saturday. Here, we begin the celebration of our shared adventure.
4. AFTER HIKE
Sat: 17:00 – 22:00
On Saturday evening, we gather once again in FriluftsByn’s restaurant Vardagsrummet with a live band and great community. You won’t want to miss this!
1. PRE-EVENING IN VARDAGSRUMMET
Even though the adventure officially begins on Thursday, most people tend to arrive on Wednesday, depending on their travel route. Therefore, we open up the living room and make sure we get a great start. On Wednesday evening, you’ll also have the opportunity to check in and pick up your food for the hike, giving you a bit more time to pack and rearrange your backpack.
If you book accommodation from Wednesday to Thursday and Saturday to Sunday, you can also keep your cabin during the time we are out on the adventure, allowing you to store your other belongings there throughout your stay.
It’s really nice to arrive already on Wednesday. Check in, pick up the food, have plenty of time to ask questions, and hang out a bit with the other participants.
GET TO KNOW THE OTHER PARTICIPANTS
Most people arrive already on Wednesday to hang out with the other participants and have a calm start to the adventure.
CHECK-IN & MAP BRIEFING
You can check in between 18:00 and 21:00. At 19:00 we will have a one hour seminar about Outdoor Life in Winter.
DINNER & BREAKFAST
You can buy dinner on Wednesday and breakfast on Thursday at FriluftsByn. It’s usually a great atmosphere!
TEST NIGHT
You can camp for free at FriluftsByn on Wednesday to Thursday and Saturday to Sunday. It can be nice to have a test night, but of course, there are other accommodation options available.
TIPS: If you need to complete any equipment, Naturkompaniet / Fjällräven Outlet is just a 30-minute drive from FriluftsByn. They are open until 7:00 PM on Wednesday.
2. GRILLING & THE WOOLPOWER DIP
Friday 16:00 – 20:00. Camp Kälsviken
During the second night of the adventure, the Explorer and Expedition groups will share the campsite. We’ll bring out grills and hot drinks for a cozy Friday evening. Those who wish can also take the opportunity to try ice swimming with Woolpower.
Food is included throughout the adventure, but make sure to bring coffee, tea, snacks, and other drinks. A good tip is to prepare a bag for each campfire evening.
ABOUT THE WOOLPOWER DIP
The Woolpower Dip is your chance to experience the properties of wool by taking a cold-water dip on Friday evening. Afterward, you’ll put on a new wool base layer from Woolpower and feel how it keeps you warm, even if you’re a little damp. If you’re interested in trying it out, sign up during the pre-evening. If more than 20 people are interested, we will draw lots to select the 20 participants. Of course, anyone can take a cold-water dip, but only the 20 selected will receive the new base layers, and they get to keep them.
COLD-WATER DIP
On Friday evening, everyone who wants to will have the opportunity to safely try cold-water dip.
THE WOOLPOWER DIP
If you are one of those who sign up on Wednesday evening, you’ll get the chance to try the Woolpower Dip.
WOOL
Woolpower’s loosely knitted wool garments keep you warm even when you’re wet and colder. Those who try the Woolpower Dip will experience this effect firsthand.
CLEAN & ALERT
Given the trend of ice baths in recent years, we probably don’t need to say much more than you’ll feel great afterwards.
3. NICE HANG OUT AT THE TOP OF THE WORLD HERITAGE
Saturday 15:00- 16:00
On Saturday, you must leave the final campsite by 09:00 at the latest to have enough time to reach the top of Skuleberget, where we finish the hike. At the top of Skuleberget, you’ll find the Top Cabin, which will be open, serving crispy waffles, soup, and full-service meals. This is where we gather to cheer each other on and energize for the final climb, as well as to kick off the celebration. By around 16:00, most people start heading back down to FriluftsByn to shower and get ready for the after-hike.
ABOUT SKULEBERGET’S TOP CABIN
Skuleberget’s Top Cabin is open to both participants and the public. The Toppstuga will be open on both Saturday and Sunday. You can find more information through the link below.
