SO WHAT EXACTLY IS THIS

HIGH COAST
WINTER HIKE

Since 2014, the High Coast Winter Hike has brought together adventurers from around the world for one of the largest winter treks on Earth — a unique mix of breathtaking landscapes, shared discovery, and genuine community.

We take care of the essentials — snowshoes, meals, transport, workshops, guides, and some truly memorable celebrations. You bring your personal gear and choose your challenge:

  • Expedition – the original adventure where we carry all our equipment and stay at two different campsites.

  • Explorer – for you who like to settle into a cozy base camp and hike each day with a lighter pack.

  • Pathfinder – for you who are not ready for winter camping but would love guided day hikes with cozy cabin accomodation at night.

We set off together but move at our own pace, reconnecting each evening at the shared camps — a rhythm that quickly becomes part of the magic.

The route follows well-marked trails, making it easy to navigate and welcoming for both new and seasoned hikers.

Need gear? You can rent tents and sleeping bags through FriluftsByn or Naturkompaniet.

Before we head out, there’s a relaxed pre-hike evening to meet fellow hikers — and after the trek, we gather for the legendary After-Hike celebration at FriluftsByn, Sweden’s heart of outdoor life.

Each year, the High Coast Winter Hike attracts a mix of experienced trekkers, curious first-timers, solo adventurers, friends, couples, and families — all drawn by the same spark: a love for nature and the joy of exploring it together.
