”Take your own car, train, or bus. If you have space in your car or are open to carpooling, we can arrange it in the participant group on Facebook.”

Jerry, FriluftsByn

”You probably have or know someone who has the equipment you need. Otherwise, you can always rent from us or at FriluftsByn.”

Magnus Svensson, Naturkompaniet

”We booked a shared cabin in FriluftsByn. It was perfect to stay right in the middle of all the activity and have a place to leave our belongings during the adventure.”

Stina Johansson, Expedition

EQUIPMENT & TIPS >>

1. REGISTER IN TIME

Since 2014, the High Coast Winter Hike has grown into one of the world’s most popular winter hikes. Although the areas we explore are vast and we often spread out as we hike at our own pace, there is a limit of 200 participants. Make sure to register in time.

2. BOOK TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION

Getting to the High Coast is easy, with many travel options available. However, you’ll likely want to stay in FriluftsByn, right at the start of the adventure and celebration after finishing. Make sure to book a cabin or bed in time. Tent spots in FriluftsByn are included in the adventure.

3. CHECK YOUR GEAR

Clothing and boots, backpack, tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, and outdoor stove make up the essentials. You probably already have a lot of this or can borrow from a friend. You can also rent gear from both FriluftsByn and Naturkompaniet. Make sure you’re familiar with your tent and outdoor stove.

4. GET OUT AND HIKE WITH A PACKED BACKPACK

Regardless of which group you plan to join – Explorer or Expedition – you should prepare in advance. Make sure to hike with a packed backpack well before the adventure to prepare your knees, back, and shoulders.

5. PACK YOUR BACKPACK IN GOOD TIME BEFORE THE ADVENTURE

You must bring the mandatory equipment, and you’ll probably want to make room for coffee, tea, and a few snacks. However, you don’t need different sets of clothes for each day. Make sure to pack your backpack in good time and remember that you’ll also need space for the freeze-dried meals included in the adventure.
